Documenting an art collection is of seminal importance in case of damage, fire, theft or other loss, and documentation can also be used to promote the collection by the use of installation labels and assist with the possible future sale or deaccession of artwork.

Nixon Art Associates has developed a number of computer based documentation systems and databases that can collect and maintain comprehensive artwork information including location, condition, history and digital imaging.

Our databases are purposely simple and easy to integrate with other existing asset management systems. We also can work with our clients' proprietary systems if requested.

In addition to a computer based system, physical inventory and imaging is necessary, especially when current inventories are outdated. On behalf of our clients with national locations, we have assembled and managed inventory teams at locations throughout the US.

Occasionally we have discovered undocumented and forgotten works of value in warehouses, closets and other spaces, pieces that have slipped through the cracks, especially within larger collections.

Our inventory systems and processes are designed to be accurate, cost-effective, efficient and easy to maintain.
